The Milton Transitional Housing program was motivated by a 2008 front-page story titled Homelessness on the Rise by Ryan Bolton in the Milton Canadian Champion.

There was no provision in Milton for transitional housing for individuals and families at risk of homelessness.

Milton Transitional Housing (MTH) was established through the sponsorship of Milton Area Christian Churches Working Together (MACCWT). In the fall of 2010, MACCWT struck a Milton Transitional Housing project committee and applied for the seed funding from the Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF) necessary to get the initiative started. MTH was incorporated as an independent, registered Canadian charity in August 2011, and formally separated from MACCWT with their blessing at that time. The two-year start-up grant from OTF allowed MTH to rent the first apartment in the fall of 2011 and MTH’s first client moved into the single original unit in February 2012.

MTH is very proud that we now have had 10 successful graduates from our program and 9 units. The need for this program is very great, therefore MTH’s Strategic Plan calls for expanding to ten transitional housing units by 2018.

The Milton Canadian Champion featured a recent story about one of our graduates.
